Separation of Pd(II) and Zn(II) by Solvent Extraction using Commercial Extractants from Hydrochloric Acid Leaching Solution of Cemented Pd from Spent Electroplating Solutions

The demand for palladium (Pd) has increased and this made it necessary to recover pure Pd from diverse secondary resources. To the small amount of Pd(II) present in spent electroplating solutions, is concentrated by cementation with zinc metal. In work, a hydrometallurgical process consisting leaching solvent extraction was developed cemented Pd. behavior Zn(II) synthetic HCl solution commercial extractants such as LIX 63, Cyanex301, DOS, TBP, Alamin 308, Alamine 336 Aliquat investigated varying concentration. results showed that Cyanex 301 DOS selectively extracted over Zn(II). These three were employed separate actual solutions using mixture 7.0 M 0.5% H2O2 2 g/L pulp density at 60oC 120 min. solution, while co-extracted 63. A two stage counter-current 63 resulted co-extraction Pd(II). complete stripping loaded Cyanex301 achieved either diluted aqua regia or mixed 5 NaClO an A/O ratio ten. proposed
